Komarnica River – Where Water Meets Wilderness

MORE

The Komarnica River springs from the southern slopes of Durmitor, in the area of Dobri Do. It is formed by several springs, the most significant being Šarban (1,680 m a.s.l.) and Sopot (1,600 m a.s.l.). Its drainage basin covers 774 km², and the river is 39.4 km long. Komarnica is known for numerous geomorphological and hydrological phenomena, among which the Nevidio Canyon holds a special place.

Before entering Nevidio Canyon, about 1.5 km north of Pošćenje, at an altitude of 950 m, the Grabovica River flows into the Komarnica. After joining with the Bukovica River, Komarnica continues through a canyon valley, which later extends into the Piva Canyon.

Surrounded by untouched nature, Komarnica is rich in plant and animal life and is an ideal destination for nature lovers, hikers, anglers, and photographers. The river is abundant in brown trout and grayling. Here, you can still feel a true, ancient sense of peace — far from crowds and the rhythm of urban life.

Whether you come to explore, relax, or simply pause and enjoy the view, the Komarnica is a place that captivates with its sincere, untamed beauty.
